I’ve been a Dallas Cowboys Fan all of my life, but I became a TRUE BLUE DIEHARD FAN during their 1977 season and their run for the Super Bowl XII championship.  I remember, as a kid, sitting in front of the TV every Sunday and watching the games with my Dad.  I never missed watching a single game and even passed on deer hunting with my brother and his friends, which was a big deal.

I can proudly say that I’ve played at a Dallas Cowboys preseason game - not just once, but twice.  Well, not as a Cowboy football player (I wish) but as a saxophone player.  In 1978 and again 1981 my high school band performed at a Dallas Cowboys half-time show in Texas Stadium.  This is a '81-patch.jpg (120073 bytes)souvenir patch that was given to me for one of the performances.   I recall my first performance in 1978, as a high school freshman, walking down the tunnel into Texas stadium and hearing the loud noise coming from the crowd’s cheers.  While waiting to perform, I stood next to giants - there were Cowboys players standing right in front of me.  WOW, it was an awesome experience that I will never forget.  I was very fortunate.

My Memorabilia collection started when my wife gave me a Troy Aikman rookie card for Valentine’s Day in 1993 right after their Super Bowl XXVII championship.  My family and friends soon got in on the act as well and started giving me caps, t-shirts or anything Cowboys related for my birthday and Christmas.  I’ve been collecting ever since and as you can see, it now takes up a complete bedroom in our home.

The name DA FAN originated in March 2002 when I got my “Officially Licensed” Dallas Cowboys license plates.  When I first applied for the plates, I was required to include my 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices for names.  Instead, I submitted 9 choices so as not to delay getting my license plates. I waited in anticipation for several weeks to find out what name was going to be on my plates.  When the plates finally arrived I found out it was my 7th choice (lucky #7), “DA FAN”.  I borrowed the idea for the name from a Saturday Night Live skit in which they referred to the Chicago Bears as “Da Bears.”

My website was created in June 2002.  I really enjoy sharing pictures and stories with other fans.  My wife keeps a scrapbook for me that contains pictures of us at games, training camp and players I’ve met.  When we attend functions like sports cards shows, player appearances/signings, charity basketball games, the scrapbook goes with us and we share it with other fans.  I also like seeing the different memorabilia that other fans and collectors bring with them to get autographed at the various functions.   What better way to share my pictures with a bigger audience and have other fans do the same with me, than through the Internet and a website.

None of this would be possible without my wife, Mrs. DA FAN.  She backs me up 100%.  She’s attended training camp in 100+ degree weather.  She goes to games with me, making sure I don’t forget anything for our tailgating party and oh yes, the tickets to the game.  She also goes to player appearances and sports shows, to keep me organized. Making sure I have the right color pen for the right item, making sure the autographs don’t smear and all while taking the perfect picture of me with the player.
